PPM RIDES 4 RACE WIN STREAK TO ROAD ATLANTA FOR PETIT LE MANS WITH DRIVERS BRANDON GDOVIC, DON YOUNT, AND SHINYA MICHIMI

October 11th, 2019

Precision Performance Motorsports (PPM) will field the strong lineup of Brandon Gdovic, Don Yount and Shinya Michimi in this weekend’s 22nd annual Motul Petit Le Mans at historic Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta. The 10-hour event is Round 4 of IMSA’s WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Series.
While the Petit Le Mans is the weekend’s headline event, three other series will determine championships at the road course near Flowery Branch, north of Atlanta. The schedule includes FOX Factory 120 in the Michelin Pilot Challenge, the IMSA Prototype Challenge and the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama. PPM is coming in fresh off its sweep of both Lamborghini Super Trofeo races at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca and a successful GT3 test at Road Atlanta.

Brandon Gdovic, riding a four-race winning streak that includes three sports car and one NASCAR victory, will get his first shot at the prestigious Petite LeMans. “I’m looking forward to the race,” he said early in the week. “We had a great test last month and found some additional speed in the car. We have high expectations for a solid finish with the PPM team, which has made great progress this year in all our racing programs.”
After returning from a busy overseas racing schedule, sports car champion Shinya Michimi, returns as one of PPM’s go-to drivers for the weekend. As a PPM regular, he was a quick study at last year’s Road Atlanta test. "I’m excited to make my IMSA WeatherTech debut with PPM this weekend,” he said. “Road Atlanta is one of my favorite tracks in the states, so I’m really looking forward to getting behind the wheel. Thank you to PPM for this great opportunity!”

Don Yount, who raced with PPM at Daytona Beach, Sebring and Watkins Glen, is equally excited about this weekend’s event. “I can’t wait to race Atlanta with the PPM Lamborghini,” said the endurance racing specialist. “We made some progress between the last races in testing, so we hope to put that work to a good result.”

The PPM team actually has a fourth star available for the weekend, but it probably won’t get any seat time. Axle, a kitten, was discovered in the axle area of the t eam’s hauler when it arrived at Laguna Seca last month. The team named it Axle and adopted it, and it will be lending its support at Road Atlanta.

The Motul Petit Le Mans kicks off on NBC at noon on Saturday. It will complete the 2019 IMSA WeatherTech Championship season and four-round IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup series. Qualifying will be streamed live on IMSA.tv on Friday starting at 3:55 p.m. along with live timing and scoring at https://scoring.imsa.com/ for practices, qualifying and the race.
